Amy & Kent - What a Great Couple!
Monday, May 12, 2008 Oh My Goodness! I just finished reading about Jenna Bush’s wedding (the President’s daughter, in case anyone doesn’t keep up with such things), and Tyrone Smith, better known as Super T was her band of choice! Wow! And to think we did a wedding last year where Super T performed. I feel almost famous. Somehow we must have missed the call for us to come out to Texas and video the event. But we would have declined anyway, because we had our own grand wedding to cover!

This past weekend Amy and Kent were married at McKendree United Methodist Church which is smack down in the middle of downtown. I love those downtown churches! What a fun and beautiful wedding!
I knew it was going to be a “good” wedding when Lynette and I went to the rehearsal the night before. Amy was not the least bit nervous. She was sooooo laid back and easy going. And so was Kent. And so was their whole family! And the church was the SAME WAY. Mary, the “church lady”, couldn’t have been any nicer about where we could set up and shoot the ceremony (what a refreshing “church lady” attitude!). And then as we met the organist and the minister, well, goodness, we couldn’t have asked for a nicer group of people!
But Amy was our little porcelain doll. I say that not because she was something untouchable and easily broken, but because she is a tiny petite little thing and was such a flawlessly beautiful bride. And sooooo nice! All our brides are wonderful, and every bride is unique. Amy was just a little extra of everything.

Kent wasn’t so bad either! Amy and Kent chose to not see each other before the wedding, so since I cover the guys before the wedding, I hung out with Kent and his brother, who was his best man. (Amy and Kent chose not to have a huge wedding party). Anyway, our new “video chick” Kelsey hung out with me and I was showing her the ropes on how to “hang with the guys”. And as usual, she came in very handy in that she ran all over this huge church to find a vending machine with cokes for the guys. I know I couldn’t have done it!

Anyway, Kent was so relaxed and easy going. I don’t think I’ve ever seen two people who were so relaxed before their wedding. Not that there is anything wrong with being nervous. Like I said, every bride and groom is unique.
The wedding itself was very beautiful. The church was packed. Kelsey and I were up in the balcony shooting the wedding, Amanda was with Amy until she walked down the aisle and again was with her as she walked back up the aisle with Kent. And Lynette was discreetly at the front of the church getting great shots of Amy and her Dad as they walked down the aisle. I think….. no, I KNOW, this is going to be a great wedding video!

After the wedding, I drove like a maniac, ummm, I mean, I drove within the traffic laws, to the reception location, which was the Vanderbilt University Club. Amanda and I covered the reception and we had never had a reception at this club before, and we always love doing new venues. And this one was very nice. Valet parking, large areas for guests to mingle, a lovely outside courtyard…..and the weather wasn’t like it was today! The weather, for a change, was actually perfect for guests to sit outside in the courtyard!
And inside the main dining room, where the cake was of course, (we must not forget the cake!), the tables were decorated beautifully and the food was delicious. My favorite was the potato bar. YUMMMM. All the guests were enjoying themselves and we had a full dance floor as the band, “Skyline Drive”, played all the hits. Things really heated up toward the end of the evening when everyone was out on the dance floor getting crazy and having fun, and the band was really HOT. You can check the band out on their website.
But all good things must come to an end, and so did the evening as Amy and Kent made a run for the limo amongst guests waving sparklers. There were so many guests and so many sparklers that I think Amanda’s hair caught fire for a few seconds, but she put it out quickly and no harm done. (Just kidding!). But I do think she was a little fearful there for a second….. : -- )

I thought the evening was a total success. What a beautiful couple, a beautiful wedding, and a fun reception. Isn’t that what it’s all about? And I have a feeling the video is going to be beautiful too!
This weekend we again were able to double our enjoyment of the evening because we worked with another of our favorite photographers, Angie Gambill.
If you read my blog last week I mentioned that we only recommend a small, elite group of photographers who we feel do amazing work and are also a pleasure for us to work with. That's why this week our Vendor in the Spotlight is Angie Gambill!
I remember when I first met Angie about three years ago when we were working together on a wedding in Murfreesboro. In the winter. In the cold. It was a beautiful crisp day and Angie took the bride and groom outside for some shots because even though it was cold, it wasn't freezing. As I was recording Angie's photoshoot, I was very impressed with her poses. Poses, you say? Yes, poses. There are poses, and then there are very creative poses. And Angie was doing some very creative and visually interesting poses with the bride and groom, and I hadn't seen that very much at the time, and I was thinking "WOW!" You can read more about Angie in the Vendors in the Spotlight section.
Okay. It’s 4:00 am and I’m tired. Must be time for bed…..Oh, one last thing…. Congrats to Amy and Kent! We LOVED doing your wedding! Thank you for letting us record your day for you!

Okay. NOW it’s time for bed……
